Sharing is caring!

Believe it or not. Blogging can be more than just a hobby.

If you’re willing to put the work in and start running your blog like a business, it could actually become your full-time career. This means that you could earn a steady income from doing something you genuinely enjoy – waving goodbye to your boring 9-5 for good!

With that in mind, here are some top tips for turning blogging into a career.

Refine your craft. The better writer you are, the better your blog will perform. This is because you’ll find it easier than ever to craft interesting or engaging content that your audience will love (and share with others). This will also help you to stand out from the crowd, which is essential when you consider the fact that 7.5 million blogs are posted every single day.

Fortunately, there are many different ways in which you can refine your craft, from simply writing more often to enrolling in classes. Reading blogs can also be useful, as it helps you to better understand what makes a post engaging (or what makes you lose interest). It will also strengthen your understanding of spelling, grammar, and structure, all of which will help you take your own content to a new level.

Be patient. According to a recent study, roughly “28% of bloggers start earning money from blogging within 6 months,” and “4% are making a full-time income within 2 years of starting their blog.” This means that if you want to make blogging your full-time career, you have to understand that you’re playing the long game. You might not make money right away, but if you remain focused and continue to work hard, you’ll begin to reap the benefits.

For this reason, your blog should be considered your side-hustle until you start to see enough money coming in.

Get creative when it comes to marketing your blog. Finding ways to draw in more web traffic will make it easier than ever to turn blogging into a career. This is because your posts will receive a higher level of engagement, which means that you can start to earn an income from your writing. However, this can feel easier said than done, so you may need to get a little creative.

For example, you could work with a local poster printer to produce high-quality posters for your blog that you then display strategically at events or around your local area. This will help to improve brand (or blog) awareness, especially if you include a barcode that will take them directly to your site on the poster itself. Remember, the posters need to be as bright and engaging as possible to capture the attention of your readers.

You should also make sure that you optimize your blog posts. This ensures they rank highly on all search engines, making it easier for readers to stumble across your content organically. If this is something that you struggle with, take some time to learn about the basics of SEO.

Post at least a few times a week. Putting together an update schedule for your blog (and sticking to it) will help ensure that your audience keeps coming back for more. Failing to upload regularly will lower the exposure you receive, meaning that your potential earnings are stripped back, too.

Promote brands and products. Though there are many different ways in which you can generate revenue through your blog, product promotion is one of the most efficient. As such, you should reach out to relevant brands that share your audience to see if they are interested in a potential collaboration. For example, they may send you a small selection of products to try out and feature on your site. If your readers choose to try out the products for themselves, they will receive a small discount, and you’ll get a commission payment.

However, this is something that you must do carefully. Featuring too many ads on your posts could make you appear disingenuous, meaning that readers lose interest in your content. You should also make sure that you only promote products that you genuinely like or would use.

Choose a niche. Choosing a niche is also essential when it comes to turning your blog into your full-time gig. This is because it will help you to build a dedicated audience, as opposed to only receiving traffic from one-off readers who will quickly begin to look elsewhere. In addition to this, occupying your own “corner of the internet” will also make it easier to plan out future content, as you have a theme to build your work around. This means that you’ll never run out of ideas when it comes to what your next blog post should be.

Make use of resources. When creating content for your blog, you should be sure to use all of the resources you have at your disposal. For example, you should use spelling and grammar software to make sure that your content is entirely error-free. Otherwise, you run the risk of looking unprofessional, which could make it harder to build a name for yourself as a successful blogger.

Engage with your audience. Finding ways to engage with your audience will also help you to turn your blog into a business, as it will strengthen the bond you share and their loyalty to you as a result of this. There are many different ways in which you could approach this challenge, from simply replying to comments to attending industry events to network and chat. You could also go live on social media!

Final thoughts. Whether you’ve always wanted to write your own blog but have yet to publish an article, or have been writing away for some time, there are many ways in which you can set about turning this hobby into a full-time career. However, as with any career, you have to be willing to work hard to see the results you’re currently picturing in your head!
