Working remotely can be very rewarding to say the least, but it’s so important that you keep your productivity up. It’s important that you keep a good work-life balance and that you also do whatever you can to try and nurture your business relationships too. Maintain Regular Hours

It’s super important that you are able to set a schedule and that you stick to it. You need to have clear guidelines for when you work and when you don’t. So many people find it almost impossible to work normal hours when they are remote and this is understandable, but you do need to put in the effort to make sure that you are not always accommodating someone else’s time zone. If you want to help yourself here, then it is very helpful to install a time-tracking app. When you do, you will soon find that you are able to reap the benefits and come out on top.

Create a Solid Morning Routine

Deciding to sit down and start work at a certain time can be difficult. You may find that sometimes, things just get in the way and that you are just not able to keep track of everything. This is understandable, but you need to make sure that you try as hard as you can to make it all work. If you don’t then you may find that you end up getting a late start and a late finish. If you want to get around this then set your alarm at a certain time to walk the dog, get back, have your coffee and then work. If you create a rigorous routine then this will help you to come out on top far more than you realize.

Set Ground Rules

It’s important that you set ground rules for those who live in your home and who share your space. If you have kids who come home from school when you are still trying to work, then they need to know not to disturb you and they also need to give you your space. Additionally, just because you are home doesn’t mean that you are able to take on other responsibilities, such as taking care of pets or cooking. People have to respect the fact that just because you work from home, doesn’t mean that you have more time than anyone else, so keep that in mind if possible. You’ll want to make sure that you take into account the business needs you have, so you can be prepared.

Schedule Breaks

It’s imperative that you know and understand the importance of breaks. If you are self-employed then make sure that you give yourself enough time in the day to get away from the computer screen or phone. A lunch break should be at least half an hour, and you should be having other 15-minute breaks from time to time as well. If you don’t then you may find that you end up struggling far more than you realise.

Leave the House

You really don’t need to eat out every single day, but you do need to try and leave your home on a regular basis. You need to leave the building at least once every day. Your body needs to move around, and you need to get some natural light as well. This will do you good, so take a walk, go to the post office or even weed the garden if you want. When you do this, you will soon find that you can reap the benefits with ease.

Don’t Hesitate to Ask

If you are employed by a company or even an organisation that supports your setup from home, then why not request whatever you need? The same concept applies to your family. You need to ask them if you feel as though you are getting overwhelmed, or if you need a break. When you do, you will soon find that people are more than happy to help you out and that they can give you the support you need right from the start. So many solo entrepreneurs find it difficult to say that they need help, but at the end of the day, it’s essential that you count on those around you because if you don’t then this may work against you in the long run.
