Sharing is caring!

Compared to the average commute, working from home can help you save a ton of money. If you’re running a business from home, then you stand to save even more. However, as a result, you can see certain household bills and other fees starting to skyrocket. It might not be as much as the average commuter’s transport fees, but there are ways to help you cut down those costs. Here, we’re going to look at what you can start saving on.

Going paperless

A lot of people still prefer having all of their work documents available in physical form, so that they can organize them and simply grab them when they need them. However, the are plenty of Cloud storage options that, when compared to the costs of keeping a printer and fax machine runner, are both a lot most cost-effective, not to mean much more reliable.

When you use a printer, you have to consider the cost of the equipment itself, the paper, the ink, and the place to store the paper, too. It’s simply not worth it, most of the time.

Control your power

Since you’re doing all your work from home and are likely to be using more digital technology than you would before, you need to keep an eye on your power bills. Make sure that you’re not leaving your work equipment on when you’re not using it and consider making the home more energy-efficient. With an electricity company, you can also see if there are any providers in your area offering a better deal than you currently get. Working from home can see your power bills shoot up dramatically, so it’s worth getting a hold on them.

Find your suppliers

Whether you’re manufacturing things from home, packing and posting them, or you simply get through a lot of office supplies, you should consider the relationship that you have with your suppliers. If you’re willing to buy in bulk, you might find that a lot of them are willing to offer a discount. Even a business of one person working from home might be able to talk their way into getting a small business discount from local stores. After all, many of them want to secure what is likely to be repeat customer.

The cost of doing business

This isn’t so much a cost in dollars, but rather an opportunity cost. If you’re spending all your time doing menial busywork that keeps you from doing the work that actually drives your business, you’re working for less money. Consider outsourcing some of your less valuable tasks to a virtual assistant. They can help take certain tasks off your plate so that you’re better able to work on the things that actually make the business money.

You might already be saving money simply by working from home, but why should that mean that you don’t save even more money by being a savvy consumer? The tips above are just ideas of how you can get extra money-smart when working from home.
