Mommy Camp for Toddlers: Fine Motor Skills

Welcome back to another week of Mommy Camp for Toddlers! I hope you had fun last week working on your gross motor skills. And if you want to continue to work on those, definitely do! This week’s theme is all about fine motor skills and as I explained last week, I post these on a Friday so you can use the weekend to gather materials for the upcoming week. Some of these items you may already have around the house and do use those items first. I don’t want this to be about purchasing all new materials just for Mommy camp. I’m on a budget too so I know what it’s like! So just what are these fine motor skills? Fine motor skills set the…

Mommy Camp for Toddlers: Gross Motor Skills

Welcome to the first week of Mommy Camp for Toddlers! Every Friday in June and into the first two or three weeks of July, I’ll have a new post for you. But just what is mommy camp for toddlers? It’s a simple way to work on fundamentals like fine and gross motor skills and learn concepts like the alphabet, shapes, numbers, and colors. Posts will be on Friday so you can use the weekend to prepare for the upcoming week ahead. But why have something just for toddlers? Well, if they see their big siblings going off to summer camp, this could be a fun way to keep them active and give them their own summer camp experience at home. It’s really whatever you make…

Learning Begins at Home

I should have very well called this the Introduction to School With Squeaker because that’s pretty much what this is. I’m not really getting into the reasons as to why I stay at home with her, and I’m not even giving you a break down of our day. All I’m really doing is sharing what’s worked for us in my quest to make the world her classroom by providing everyday learning experiences because for me, learning begins at home- regardless if you’re going to send your child off to public or private school or homeschool them. I will begin by saying that I’m not a professional and I don’t have a degree in education. But I don’t let that stop me from providing every day…

Super Simple Gross Motor Activity

If you’re like us and find yourself ordering from Amazon often, this super simple gross motor activity is for you! You could also substitute balloons or bubble wrap but we happened to have a lot of these on hand. While we don’t mind having those packing materials around, we were looking for something else to do with them. T & J enjoy stomping on them and I can remember one day last Fall when they took a bunch of them outside to have a jump fest. Squeaker, at the time, was too little to partake. But, since she’s become more active, I thought it might be fun to try with her. We also turned this into a counting game but counting the number of times…

Simple Sensory Play: Letter A Sensory Play

I enjoy any simple sensory play ideas and by simple sensory play, I mean 5 ingredients or less with minimal prep and clean up. Of course I can dream but it’s wonderful when I come across play ideas like that. And this all stemmed from my making avocado and banana muffins. I used applesauce in the recipe and since Kyle decided to get a larger jar of unsweetened applesauce, I started looking for ideas. I came across one from Still Playing School and thought- why not give that a try. You could also use this in conjunction with our Letter A post from our afterschooling series. How I’m Preparing To Homeschool My Toddler

How I’m Preparing To Homeschool My Toddler

After Squeaker was born, the decision was made that I would stay at home with her. Partially because we couldn’t afford daycare or a babysitter but mostly because it was something I wanted to do. Later on, I started wondering if homeschooling would be in our future as well. And, at the very least, we would homeschool preschool and pre-K, with Kindergarten as a possibility as well. We might go beyond that but we haven’t decided 100% just yet. Squeaker is 17 months old as of this post so here’s how I’m preparing to homeschool my toddler.
