Having Fun with the Itsy Bitsy Spider

Squeaker absolutely nursery rhymes and finger plays right now. One of her favorites just so happens to be the Itsy Bitsy Spider. We do this one often and she’s getting to the point where she can do some of the motions independently. She’s also attempting to say itsy bitsy. To help facilitate this, I made a printable pack for her so we can do other activities. We’re having fun with the itsy bitsy spider and I hope that you will too! We will also be using this soon in our Afterschooling series, so be sure to look out for the post! For now this is just your download and coming soon, I’ll share what we did to supplement our mini unit/first theme for Tot School…

Button Play for Fine Motor Skills

Button Play for Fine Motor Skills

After putting together the St. Patrick’s Day sensory bin, which was then re-purposedĀ  for an Easter sensory bin, I realized that the buttons that we bought had a lot of potential. How so? Well, I got the idea after Squeaker kept trying to go after the package. She was fascinated with the shape and size, so I thought why not capitalize on her curiosity and use button play for fine motor skills development. After gathering a few materials around the house, we had a simple DIY button game that only took me a few minutes to put together but kept her entertained for a good 15 to 20 minutes at a time. (and if you have a young child, you know that’s quite a bit…

Simple Scarf Sensory Play

Squeaker has recently started getting into my clothes. More often than not, this involves taking them off of the shelves, looping one item (usually a t-shirt) around her neck/shoulder area and leaving the rest on the floor. Sometimes, she’ll try to put them on, though unless it’s something like a tank top, she won’t get very far. Then she discovered a scarf that I had recently been sent for another blogging post. And all bets were off. All I had to do was encourage her to explore and we had a morning filled with simple scarf sensory play. I wasn’t sure why this caught her interest so much, but it really did hold her attention for quite some time. At first, it was limited to…

Simple St. Patrick’s Day Sensory Bin for Toddlers

We finally got everything in to make our first sensory bin and it was well worth the wait! Right after I finished putting everything together, I let Squeaker play with the contents and she sat for a good 15 minutes if not 20 exploring what was in there. I kept the contents simple but themed because it’s a St. Patrick’s Day sensory bin, though we might rotate some stuff out or put some new stuff in and just change it to a “green” sensory bin when we start our unit on colors. Still, we were able to get in a few things before she lost interest. We talked about the textures, shook the bin for sound, and counted coins. Squeaker loves to explore everything so…

St. Patrick’s Day Sensory Bottles

Continuing with our St. Patrick’s day theme for School with Squeaker, today we’re turning our sights to sensory play. While I’m waiting for the rest of our supplies to get here for the sensory bin, today I’d like to share our simple St. Patrick’s Day sensory bottles. Though Squeaker didn’t really show much interest in sensory bottles in the past, she did seem to enjoy these. Super Simple Card Ideas for Toddlers

Kyle’s birthday was last week and mine falls in the first week of February. There’s also Valentine’s Day in February and numerous birthdays coming up in the next few months. Because of this, I wanted to start looking for cards to send. But, since I’m also cheap trying to be frugal, I wanted a way to make cards at home. Then I had the brilliant idea to get Squeaker involved… especially for Kyle, because well, why not make a homemade card for daddy? We ended up making three cards for his birthday this year, one that ended up being a joint project with T & J when they were here on the weekend.
