What to Do When Your Toddler Bites

Perhaps you’ve heard that sometimes when a shark takes a bite out of something, it’s an exploratory bite. Perhaps the same can be said about toddlers when they bite and hey, at least with a toddler we know that there’s no risk of being completely digested or losing pints of blood- right? Even if it may not be completely malicious, most toddlers will bite at some point in their little lives. It goes right along with that precious stage of hitting and kicking. It’s a developmental issue but not something that you should make too big of a deal out of. I’m not suggesting that biting people is okay, far from it. But there are definitely things that you should (and should not) do when…

Paper Plate Pumpkins

Paper Plate Pumpkins

We haven’t done too many Halloween or fall crafts with Squeaker this year though I’m not sure why. Fall is one of my favorite times of the year for many reasons. We’ll kick start that though next month with Thanksgiving, Advent, and Christmas crafts. And plenty of winter themed crafts as well since it seems that Squeaker loves winter and snow just as much as her daddy. But, for now, let’s get back to Fall! We did do a K-Cup crow that turned out pretty cute, I think. And my personal favorite was our handprint keepsake pumpkin. We also did two apple themed activities with our handprint and pom pom apple tree, plus the toilet paper roll apple stamping. So I suppose it wasn’t too…

Preparing Your Home for Winter

Whether we like it or not, Winter is around the corner. And for those of us in the Northeast or in the Midwest, it means bracing for snowstorms, freezing cold temperatures, and all of the other joys that come along with winter. Now, I don’t mind it too much and while I’m not a huge fan of shoveling snow; I can’t deny that sometimes winter does make for a breathtaking view. But that still doesn’t mean that I’m looking forward to everything else- especially the cold. And while we may do whatever we can to prepare ourselves for winter by breaking out the long sleeved clothing, thermals, etc; we should also be preparing our homes. But how do you start preparing your home for winter?…

Helping Kids Identify Moods

One of the things that Sweet B has consistently struggled with are abstract concepts such as moods. She’s done somewhat okay with concrete concepts such as colors, numbers, foods, or anything else that has some sort of association with the senses. If she can feel it, see it, taste, smell it, or touch it- she’s more likely to remember what it is and have an easier time with learning it. Of course it still takes repetition, but that’s just how she learns. With abstract concepts, on the other hand, it’s definitely been more of a struggle. But, I’ve also learned (through trial and error, and a lot of assistance from her team of teachers and therapists) that visual representations do a world of good. By…

Why Bloggers Need Bloggers

With these baby steps to blogging posts being so sporadic, I want to try setting up a more predictable schedule for when they’ll get posted. I do plan on going back to the How to Make Money Blogging mini-series, but for right now; I want to touch on something that I feel is equally important. Actually, if I’m going to be honest, I think that this is even more important than monetizing. It’s about bloggers supporting bloggers because I fully believe that bloggers need bloggers. As a blogger, I think community and networking are a huge part of what I do. I belong to various blog support groups on Facebook and to numerous blog networks. But why? Could I succeed on my own? Possibly, but…

What to Pack for an Emergency

If a natural disaster were to hit your area, would you know what to do? Would you have an emergency pack ready to go? For that matter, what would be in your emergency pack? Off the top of our heads, we usually think of things like food items, flashlights, batteries, etc. But do we always know what to pack for an emergency? I will admit, packing for an emergency or natural disaster is not something that I’m fully prepared for. Sure, we try to make sure that our house is stocked with a few staple items in case the power goes out or if we get snowed in. But, beyond that, we need to prepare better. Now, I’m not talking about prepping but we’ll get…
