Sharing is caring!

Over time the roof in your home can become damaged, meaning it needs urgent repairs or even a full roof replacement. Failing to act on getting your roof repaired can lead to a whole host of problems inside your home and could even potentially invalidate any insurance claims you may have to make because of this.

To avoid unwanted damage inside your home due to a poorly maintained roof, mold growth, or dampness, you need to make sure you keep on top of repairs all year round.

What are the top signs you need a new roof or any roof repairs?

A Sagging Roof

Keep an eye out for sagging roof decks. This is a common problem that develops over time, so you need to look and assess your roof constantly. Examine the roof’s natural lines; are they sagging or warped? Although most roofs have a natural angle, they should be straight. If your roof is sagging, you will most likely need a complete roof replacement. This is a problem you should never overlook. There are roofing companies out there that can help you with that if you spot this problem on your roof.

Leaks

Do you have any moisture or leaks in your house? If that’s the case, it’s time to start looking for a roofing contractor such as Bravo Roofing.

Moisture does not appear on its own in your house. Most of the time, it enters through a hole in the roof. Keep an eye out for water stains on ceilings or high up on walls, as well as active leaks. Within your house, leaks and moisture aren’t just inconvenient. Mold can grow in the presence of water, which is dangerous to your family’s health.

Clogged Guttering

You can have serious shingle damage if your gutters are constantly clogged. Clogged gutters are a common indicator that a roof needs to be repaired.

Take a look at what’s causing your gutters to clog the next time they need clearing out. It is likely your roof is rapidly rotting if you find granules or shingle fragments in your gutters. It is important to note that the degradation process is accelerated by heavy rain and bad weather.

Damaged Shingles

Damaged shingles are the most visible indication of roof damage. Look for the following signs of damage on your roof:

  • Shingles that are missing
  • Shingles with cracks
  • Roofing shingles with a curled lip
  • Granules falling out of damaged asphalt shingles. Granules resembling black sand can often be found in gutters. This indicates that your shingles are nearing the end of your life.

If only a few shingles are damaged, you may be able to fix or patch them. However, the longer you wait to repair shingles, the worse the damage can become and eventually you’ll need to get roofing experts in to put the problem right and avoid leaks and further damage.

Algae Growth

Are your shingles encrusted with algae? This is a sign of roof damage unless you’ve invested in a green roof. Algae development indicates that moisture is accumulating on your roof. This may be attributed to shingles that have been weakened or a sagging roof. Check your shingles for dark stains, which indicate water damage.
