Keeping your home looking lovely involves many different chores, from interior design to maintenance and cleaning. When you’re focusing on your cleaning, it can be a good idea to consider pest control. Many different pests can enter your home and cause you bother, but with a few natural remedies, you can keep these unwanted visitors out!

  1. Eucalyptus oil

Eucalyptus trees are native to Australia, and it’s the leaves which are used in the oil-making process. Eucalyptus has been used medicinally for years, treating conditions such as nasal congestion and asthma. Insects strongly dislike the smell, so it’s a great idea to purchase eucalyptus candles for your home. If you prefer, get some eucalyptus essential oil and apply it to your surfaces. To bug proof of your home it’s an excellent natural remedy.

  1. Peppermint oil

Peppermint is a cross between spearmint and watermint; this herb is native to both North America and Europe. The oil is extracted from the eaves and is often used for relaxation. The smell puts off rodents such as mice, so it’s not a bad idea to rub this oil over your surfaces. The best time to do this is during the cold weather (when mice are most likely to try and get inside)! For other ideas, mice also dislike cayenne pepper and cloves.

3 . Diatomaceous earth

Diatomaceous earth is a natural powder that’s made with phytoplankton fossils. These fossils contain the active ingredient silica. It’s particularly useful for warding off insects like ants, spiders, roaches and flies. You can apply the powder in a trail around the edges of your floor, or target any holes and gaps where insects might enter your home. Diatomaceous earth is also suitable for use in your garden, yet you should be mindful not to apply it directly to your plants.

  1. Citrus peel

Citrus peel is another excellent pest control remedy, it’s great to keep spiders away. Simply rub citrus peel across your window sills, and at the bottom of your doorways. You should also target any crevices where spiders or rodents might be able to enter. Remember, do not leave the peels out on surfaces, simply rub them down and then dispose of the peels.

  1. Preventive measures

It sounds simple, but one of the best ways to keep pests away is by taking necessary preventive measures. Pests are attracted to food, and so keeping your house super clean is one great way to keep them at bay. Ensure that you do not leave any food out, keep everything securely stored in boxes and cupboards. Once you’ve finished eating, tackle your washing up right away, so that there is no food debris left out overnight. Once you’ve finished cleaning up, rub down your surfaces with white vinegar.

Unfortunately, sometimes even the best natural solutions fail against specific pests! If you’ve tried to control the issue yourself, and are having no luck, you’ll need to hire a professional company. For an excellent pest control service, check out aswatona pest control services.
