Sharing is caring!

Winter is often a tough time for your home. It can take a battering from wind, rain, snow and ice. The best thing that you can do is to be prepared and protect your home from the ravages of winter. However, even if you take steps to protect your property, you can still find that there’s some damage to deal with when the worst of winter is over. On top of doing some spring cleaning, it’s also a good idea to ensure your home gets the post-winter care that it requires. Take a look at these tasks that you can do when winter is over.

4 important post-winter care tasks for your home

Clear Your Gutters

Your gutters are important for helping to direct water away from your home. If they’re blocked up, you could find that you have problems with leaks and water building up. Many things can get blown into your gutters during the winter, and you may find that you need to clear them out when the season is over. While it might be possible to complete this job yourself, it’s often better to have a professional do it for you. They can clean out your guttering quickly and efficiently and, most importantly, safely too.

Repair Damage from Flooding and Leaks

During the winter, you might find that you have problems with flooding and water damage in your home. This is important to take care of as soon as possible, but perhaps you won’t be able to seek a permanent solution until winter is over. If you discover any residential water damage, you should get professional help to repair it. When dealing with any current flooding, make sure to turn off the power so that your home is safe. To prevent further problems, you might need to repair leaks or perhaps make other changes to your home.

Clean the Windows

It might not be the most pressing matter, but your windows will often need a good clean after the winter. The weather can leave them looking dirty, affecting your home’s image and making it more difficult to get natural light inside. You can clean your windows yourself, but a professional window cleaner does make it easier to clean the outside of your upper windows. While you take care of the outside of your windows, take the opportunity to clean the insides too. It can be part of your spring cleaning so that your whole home sparkles.

Check the Roof

Surveying your roof once or twice a year is always a good idea. After winter is the perfect time to do it, when the roof might have been affected by the weather and the buildup of various debris. You can take a look at your roof from the ground using binoculars to see if you can spot any problems. If you want a more thorough check, call out a roofer to take a more in-depth look at the health of the roof.

Take care of your home after winter by giving it a thorough health check and repairing any problems.
