It can be more difficult to keep your home bright in the winter; however, it’s not impossible.

Here are some easy ways to brighten your home all year round, even during the winter:

Bring in As Much Natural Light as Possible

You may think it’s difficult to bring in natural light in the winter, but you’re wrong. You can still maximise the natural light and mimic it when it does get dark.

Using mirrors opposite windows is a nifty trick that many people use. It helps by spreading the natural light around your home and can easily brighten a dull living room. They also make great features on the walls.

And open your curtains during the day to keep your home nice and bright.

When you can, open a few windows to let fresh air run around your home and keep the dullness away.

Use lighter fabrics when changing your curtains so sunlight filters through. You may want to add white voils so you have privacy, but it lets in light.

Even making small changes can transform the way your home feels and looks.

Choose Lighter Accents

Having dark furniture or really heavy textiles can make your rooms feel weighted down. Adding in lighter accessories can also help to change the way your home feels and help to reflect more light around the room.

Swap out some of the darker pillows and blankets for ones in lighter, fresher tones. Pale blue, cream, and muted pastels are all great colors to brighten a room without it feeling garish.

You don’t need to change everything; just swapping a few dark colors for light ones can make your room feel brighter.

Bring in Greenery and Florals

Plants instantly liven up a space, and they are easy additions to your home.

That being said, really, plants do take some looking after, and this puts people off.

This is why so many people are now starting to add artificial plants. Buying bulk artificial flowers means you can swap and change them in your home as often as you like. If you are someone who likes to have fresh flowers on the table each week but doesn’t like throwing them out, swapping your artificial ones each week could be the answer.

Keep Surfaces Clear

Clutter makes your home dull. Even if you have bright lighting, clutter can ruin the way your home feels.

Start by clearing all your work surfaces, counters, tables, and shelves. Then, only put back what you use daily or is important to you, such as a family photo.

When you keep clutter as low as possible, it makes your home appear bigger, brighter, and also makes it easier to keep clean and tidy.

Add Layers of Texture

A bright home isn’t about adding in tonnes of color; it’s about the way it makes you feel.

Layering different textures adds warmth as long as you don’t use overpowering colors. The key is to mix fabrics and prints so you don’t do too much of one thing.

Conclusion

Brightening your home doesn’t mean you need to spend loads or change everything. Try some of the ideas above and see how you get on.
