5 Tips for Balancing Work, Life, and Family: For Ambitious Stay at Home Moms

5 Tips for Balancing Work, Life, and Family: For Ambitious Stay at Home Moms

In 2015, I had ambitions of completing my bachelor’s degree (psychology, if you’re curious). And at the time, I struggled mightily with balancing life, work, and parenting. This post outlines those struggles and methods that I attempted to use. Sometimes I had to wonder where I was going to find the time to fit everything in. And then I also had to realize that sometimes it’s just okay to let it go. My priorities started to shift and slowly, but surely, everything started to fall into place. Now, I could very well call this post – my word for the New Year. But my word for the New Year is growth. This word, on the other hand, is not just for the New Year but…

What is Comorbidity and Autism?

What is Comorbidity and Autism?

Here we are with Day 3 of the A to Z challenge, which in conjunction with Autism Awareness month, I’ve chosen to do Autism A to Z. Day 1 covered 10 Myths About Autism and Day 2 was about behavior and ABA therapy. For Day 3, the topic I’ve chosen is Comorbidity and Autism. But just what is comorbidity? It certainly doesn’t sound like a great word, what with morbid being in it’s name at all. So before we get to talking about how it relates to autism specifically, I’ll talk about what it is. Just what is comorbidity? First things first, let’s get to the definition of comorbidity. Because, I’ll admit, when I first saw the word I was more than a little confused…

Raising children is not cheap and raising a child with autism can be particularly expensive. I’m sharing some of my favorite free resources for families with autism in hopes to alleviate some of that financial strain. Next up in our Autism A to Z series is the letter F. And as I was trying to come up with a theme for today, I realized F could stand for a few things. Free and families stood out the most to me after brainstorming a list so there you have it. Today, I’m bringing you a few of my favorite free resources for families with autism. Ten Things That You Can Do to Support a Parent of a Child with Autism

As an autism mom, I often hear advice that’s meant to be helpful or guiding in some form or another. As a mom of an individual with autism, I really hear a lot of ‘helpful’ advice, mostly from well meaning people. Sometimes, I genuinely do think that they’re trying to be helpful, and other times it’s all I can do to keep a straight face. More often than not, I’d like to be able to say here’s how you can help. With that being said, I’d like to offer my own take on Ten Things That You Can Do for a Parent with a Child with Autism. And don’t forget to check out my autism resources and inspiration for more posts like this. Ten Things…

You Are My Sunshine Paper Plate Mother’s Day Craft Idea

You Are My Sunshine Paper Plate Mother’s Day Craft Idea

I don’t have high expectations for Mother’s Day gifts. I feel, in some ways, that it’s becoming over commercialized and honestly? I don’t need the gifts. Is the acknowledgement nice? Of course it is. When I’m acknowledged by Kyle’s boys (with my unofficial role as the other mother in their lives), that made my day. Beyond that, I expect nothing and ask for nothing. I’ve still held on to all of the crafts and homemade gifts that Sweet B has brought home and will cherish anything that Squeaker brings home from school. In the meantime, we make our own crafts together and while we were making paper plate suns, I had the bright idea to turn it into a Mother’s Day craft. This post contains…

Low Carb Breakfast Scramble

Low Carb Breakfast Scramble

While a low carb diet isn’t exactly our intention, on occasion we’ll have low carb dishes. This usually results in a low carb breakfast option like this delicious low carb breakfast scramble. During the week we don’t make a big to-do about breakfast but over the weekends, we do put more effort into it. Sunday is always pancake day and Saturday, we get a little more creative. Kyle’s boys, T & J, have cereal usually but I’ll make something for myself, Kyle, and Squeaker. Easy Low Carb Breakfast Scramble This breakfast scramble can be completely vegetarian if you’d like and you can also add in other vegetables. Next time, I think I’ll use spinach as well. It cooked relatively quickly and was incredibly filling. The…
