Change Flooring

One thing you can do is change the flooring around your home. If you have carpet then this can hold onto allergens like dust and pollen. Changing your flooring to hardwood floors will ensure you can keep on top of these allergens and get rid of them from your house. When you are changing over the flooring, you will want to get rid of all the carpets. Don’t be afraid to shop around to find the best deal. Some companies will lay the flooring while others will also supply it for you.

Maintain HVAC Filters

If your HVAC filters are blocked then this could end up being sent around your home meaning you are breathing it in. In order to avoid this, you should be checking and changing your filters regularly. Every HVAC system will have different regulations for filters and which replacements to use. Make sure you read the manual that comes with your system so you know which ones to get. You should also ensure you are regularly maintaining your HVAC system, contact your local engineer to get yourself booked in.

Dust Regularly

Even if you completely get rid of the carpet throughout your home, you can still find yourself battling with dust particles. They will cling to any and all services including the top of units, the corners of rooms, and on decorations around the home. If you dust regularly then you will get rid of this, dusting should be added to your weekly chore chart. If you don’t want to do this yourself then you could hire a cleaner and include dusting your shelves and ornaments onto their to do list.

Keep Plants Out

Plants, while being great at purifying the air around you, can cling on to pollutants and allergens. If you want to avoid this happening then it is best to avoid having live plants around the house. Don’t worry you won’t have to give up on ever having greenery around your house again, you can invest in beautiful artificial plants. They have come a long way since the horrendous plastic looking plants that people used to buy. Now you won’t be able to tell if they are real or fake.

Use Coverings On Bedding

Bedding can be a huge issue to those suffering from allergies. It can be very hit and miss as to whether you are allergic to the feathers or down used in various bedroom furnishings. Trial and error is the best way to go about this, maybe you have friends who can help you out. This will save you buying duvets or pillows to only throw them out and replace them. When you are in the process of buying bedding, it can be helpful to look for anti-allergy symbols. You can also use various coverings on your bedding from hypoallergenic mattress covers to pillow covers. You should also wash your bedding weekly to get rid of dust mites.

Washable Curtains

Something you might not even think of when it comes to allergy proofing your home is washable curtains. Most curtains these days will be washable, however, do be careful that the curtains you have aren’t hand wash only. Hand washing will not eradicate every allergy that can impact your life. Curtains and other soft furnishings need to be washed at around 60 degrees to make sure they are safe for use. Check reviews when you are buying them to ensure that people are happy with how they look and how they wash.

Invest In Leather Furniture

What sort of furniture do you have around your home? If it is fabric then this can have an impact on your allergies. Dust, pollen, and other allergens like to stick to fabric and will be released each time you move around on it. If you get yourself some leather furniture then this makes it difficult for allergens to stick to. Head to your local furniture warehouse to see what you like.

Ensure Adequate Ventilation

When you are showering or taking baths then you should use the provided extractor fan in the bathroom. This will take away all the steam that can lead to mold gathering around the room. If you don’t have an extractor fan due to your home being older then opening a window can have the same effect. You might want to consult an expert to see if you can have a fan installed in your bathroom. It makes life a lot easier and means you won’t have to open the windows in winter when it’s cold.

Don’t Smoke

Lastly, if you are a smoker then this should be done only outside. If you or anyone within the household suffers with allergies then you don’t want to make this worse by adding cigarette smoke into the mix. You don’t have to quit altogether although you can if you choose to, this would be far more beneficial for your health. If you take your smoking outside then you won’t be adding smoke and pollutants into your home. Smoking outside also means you won’t need to redecorate your home due to discoloration of the walls and ceilings.
