With the organic craze still very much alive, it lead me to wonder: are there really health benefits of organic gardening?

Health Benefits of Organic Gardening

With the weather really warming up lately and signs of early spring coming around, the urge to get out and get the yard ready for a garden is strong. We will be planning a vegetable garden this year and possibly a butterfly garden with Squeaker. I’m unsure if we’ll go the organic gardening route or not but we’ll at least try to go as organically as possible. One of my favorite things about spring and summer is being able to go to the local Farmer’s market to buy fresh vegetables. But are there really any major health benefits of eating organic food? I think it would be fun for her and a way to really get her involved with gardening. Another thing that we’re considering is whether or not we go the more organic route or stick to tried and true from last year. We are not green people though we’ve made a few eco-friendly lifestyle changes, we have not fully adopted that lifestyle. Unfortunately, we didn’t prepare enough so we were unable to grow much of anything. That and our backyard still needed some work done. While we ended up going with a container garden last year, this year we’ll probably do a mixture of raised bed gardening and container gardening. I want to share with you, some of the steps that we took and places that we looked…

Whether we like it or not, Winter is around the corner. And for those of us in the Northeast or in the Midwest, it means bracing for snowstorms, freezing cold temperatures, and all of the other joys that come along with winter. Now, I don’t mind it too much and while I’m not a huge fan of shoveling snow; I can’t deny that sometimes winter does make for a breathtaking view. But that still doesn’t mean that I’m looking forward to everything else- especially the cold. And while we may do whatever we can to prepare ourselves for winter by breaking out the long sleeved clothing, thermals, etc; we should also be preparing our homes. But how do you start preparing your home for winter?…

Four Season Lawn Care: Fall and Winter

Now that we’re getting into the heart of Fall here in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s time to start talking about lawn care for the rest of this season and into next. While we might not think it’s quite as important because we may not see our lawns quite as much, especially if we’re in an area of the country that gets a lot of snow; taking care of our lawn during all four seasons is important. We had briefly touched on spring and summer lawn care, so today let’s talk about fall and winter lawn care. Fall Lawn Care Many people feel that fall is the time to let the mowing go and not have to worry about the lawn. But fall is the time…
