Simple St. Patrick’s Day Sensory Bin for Toddlers

We finally got everything in to make our first sensory bin and it was well worth the wait! Right after I finished putting everything together, I let Squeaker play with the contents and she sat for a good 15 minutes if not 20 exploring what was in there. I kept the contents simple but themed because it’s a St. Patrick’s Day sensory bin, though we might rotate some stuff out or put some new stuff in and just change it to a “green” sensory bin when we start our unit on colors. Still, we were able to get in a few things before she lost interest. We talked about the textures, shook the bin for sound, and counted coins. Squeaker loves to explore everything so…

Becoming a Blogger

In 2013, towards the end of my second trimester during my pregnancy with Squeaker, I was confined to partial bed rest. I had to stop working and from that point on, I stayed home. Naturally, there was only so much TV I could watch, books to read, FB games to play.. you get the picture. Then it dawned on me to restart my family website that I had done so many years ago… before blogging became what it is today. But, I’ve talked about that already, so let’s get to the heart of this post: becoming a blogger. Really, this is a general recollection of how and why I made the transition. I suppose this also explains a bit behind the blog name, but if…

Spinach and Artichoke Dip

Every Sunday evening, we watch the latest episode of the Walking Dead and sometimes catch up on old episodes. One of the biggest problems that we run into is finding the ideal snack for the show. We don’t do themed snacks, though that might be an option to explore for the finale. But we do tend to fall back on one snack in particular. I love a good spinach and artichoke dip and after trying several recipes, I think we finally have our favorite. One of these days, I’ll be brave enough to use fresh artichokes, but I’m still trying to get the hang of cooking those first and then using them for the dip or whatever else we need them for. This most recent…

St. Patrick’s Day Sensory Bottles

Continuing with our St. Patrick’s day theme for School with Squeaker, today we’re turning our sights to sensory play. While I’m waiting for the rest of our supplies to get here for the sensory bin, today I’d like to share our simple St. Patrick’s Day sensory bottles. Though Squeaker didn’t really show much interest in sensory bottles in the past, she did seem to enjoy these. St. Patrick’s Day Sensory Bottles This post makes use of affiliate links at no additional cost to you. By making a purchase through one of my links, you are helping me support my family. First, I gathered my supplies together: – Empty (and washed) mouthwash bottles. I like these because of the caps. Until she can squeeze that, she…

Turkey, Quinoa, and Spinach Casserole

So, we’ve been on a bit of a spinach kick lately. Personally, I love spinach and Squeaker seems to be following in my footsteps. Kyle, while he did not grow up liking spinach, has taken a liking to it as an adult. Lucky me because that means I can try out all the spinach recipes I want! So, when I wanted another opportunity to cook with quinoa I googled and found a recipe that was right up my alley. With a few modifications and we had a tasty turkey, quinoa, and spinach casserole. Not that the original wasn’t tasty, but we wanted to make our own modifications to it. You can find the original recipe on iFoodReal. So, yes… delicious and tasty. Also hearty and…
