Planning Our Tot School Year 2015-16

Though it may seem futile to “homeschool” a toddler, I fully intend to do just that with my Squeaker. I’ve already talked about how I’m preparing to homeschool my toddler and I’ve finally gotten around to figuring out what we’re going to do. When we finally get around to formal homeschooling, I do intend to do a year round method. I think this will just work better for us but that won’t be until we’re ready for kindergarten or first grade. Until then, I want to keep our homeschooling informal, fun, and playful with a hint of education. So here’s how we’re planning our tot school year. First things first, I want this to be about learning through playing, exploring, and every day experiences. We’ll…

5 Easy Get Out of Debt Secrets

5 Easy Get Out of Debt Secrets

As we continue on our journey to wipe out debt, today I want to share five easy get out of debt secrets. I could also call these not so secret secrets, but we’ll leave them as is. The reason I want to share these is because I want all of us, who are struggling with debt, to become debt free. This was not something that we wanted for ourselves, but somehow we ended up here. And if we got ourselves into this mess, we can get ourselves out of this mess- and stay out of it so we can prevent this from happening again. When times are tough, it can be difficult to make payments on the things we need. And when we run up…

Pros and Cons of Screen Time for Toddlers

Screen time is something that I’ve struggled with since Squeaker was old enough to figure out how to operate a tablet. That would be around 14 months of age, maybe a little bit sooner. She will be 2 in December, and I understand that many children are figuring out how to operate tablets at younger ages. This both amazes and saddens me. Still, I wanted to weigh the pros and cons of screen time for toddlers before making a definitive decision. Whether it was watching her sister, her brothers, or myself use a tablet or Kindle; Squeaker has always been fairly aware of the goings on with electronic devices. She also watches a few television programs with us, though it’s usually limited to Jeopardy, Wheel…

Staying hydrated is important, but why? Aside from the obvious, let's take a look.

The Importance of Staying Hydrated

Whether it’s through an article we’ve read, advice from a doctor, or from family members; we know that we should stay hydrated. This is particularly important during the summer months. But is staying hydrated really that necessary? Well, yes- actually it is. The human body can go longer without food than it can without water. That right there tells me that staying hydrated is important. And today, we’re going to talk about the importance of staying hydrated and why it really does matter. I’ve never been one to always take my own advice. Even when it came to important things like getting enough water every day or at least making sure that I was monitoring my fluid intake. I’ve gotten better with this habit as…

25 Ways to Celebrate Christmas in July

Christmas is less than six months away. And while that may seem like a long time, and in actuality it is, before we know it December will be here. I’m not in any rush to have it come, believe me. But Christmas is definitely one of my favorite holidays. That’s why I’m not above finding a reason to celebrate Christmas in July. To me, it feels like celebrating the best of the holiday without all of the hustle and bustle that normally surrounds Christmas. While I’m not suggesting that you to get all of your Christmas decorations out from the attic (or wherever you choose to store them), it might be fun to do a little bit of decorating to really get in the mood….

Cleaning does not have to be expensive, and believe it or not- cleaning doesn’t have to involve harsh chemicals, either.
