Sharing is caring!

When it comes to decorating your home, then accessorizing can complete the look of any room, and it can give it needed character, vibrancy, and bring things all together. Without some things like this, then it can leave a room that looks a bit dull and plain. But even though we know they can add character and style, often we can feel a little overwhelmed or stressed out by choosing the accessories that are going to work best in our homes. It can seem like ‘dressing’ a room is something you either have or you don’t. But really, it is something that can be acquired through experience. So here are a few tricks of the trade that you can do to have you looking like an interior design pro in no time.

3 Simple Tricks to Accesorise Your Home Like a Pro

Collect Over Time

It can be easy to be tempted to run out and get the latest things that you are seeing all over Instagram. But if you do, it can look more like a model home, rather than something that demonstrates your personal space and style. Your home needs to give it some of your personality. So why not spend time to collect things over time, the things that you see in stores that really speak to you? Of course, some of the latest trends can be fun to play around with. But do so sparingly, or it can look a little contrived.

Consider Balance, Weight and Scale

When it comes to kitting out any room, you need to think about things like the visual weight of the accessories in the room, and making sure that it all flows and all is consistent; this is all about an items mass, colors, and patterns. For example, if you want to create some balance, then a fireplace and mantel can be a good place to start. You could anchor one side of the mantel with a large object, and then use a group of objects that are smaller on the other side. Vases of different sizes can be a good idea, and they can magnify the visual weight and depth of the group of things.

Play With Color

If you want to accessorize, then make sure that you make the most of the color palette in the room. You could blend the accessories into the color scheme that you have, or add in some pops or accents of color. You could also go for something unique and a little different, like getting a tropical fish tank from somewhere like Swell UK (or an American equivalent) to have as a feature in a wall, or for something to be placed on a side table. You could always go down the route of things like using decorative pillows as a way to add in some color. But remember, accessories are one of the least costly ways to introduce color in a room. So use that to your advantage.

It can be a good idea to buy up all of your accessories from a large chain store, as then it can look like a storefront window. Less can sometimes be more, but play around and find out what works in your home.
