When you are trying to save money, it is often natural that you would stop spending money on all but the essentials in order to do so. You may also start buying cheaper versions of the things you need to make further savings too.

This strategy will work out well most of the time, but there are lots of times when you can actually save money by spending money too. Let’s take a look at a few of them now:

  1. Buying food in bulk

When you buy food in bulk, you will need to spend more upfront, but you will actually, quite often, get a discount on a higher volume of food, which means you will pay less over the course of a year and save lots of money in the process.

If you also batch cook your food, then you can save on the amount of energy you use making meals each year, which believe me, adds up.

  1. Adult clothing

When buying for your kids, choosing cheap and cheerful clothing is often a good idea because they will grow out of them so fast. When you’re an adult, as long as you watch your weight, you will not have to worry about growing out of your clothing, which means, investing in slightly higher quality clothes, which will withstand wear and tear much better, can be a good way to save money over the years.

Fast fashion might be fun, but it is not made to last and that means you will spend more on replacing old worn clothes than you need to. Invest in the best quality capsule wardrobe you can afford and you’ll save money, look great, and not have to worry about what to wear.

  1. Replacing old windows and doors

You might think, as a homeowner, that going as long as you can without replacing old windows and doors is a good way to make a saving However if your windows and doors are older than 15 years, they may not be very efficient at keeping drafts out or keeping your home secure, which means you could end up paying more on your energy bills, home security and homeowners insurance. Click here to find out more about window replacements and the benefits of new windows and you will soon see how spending more here can be a good idea.

  1. Living in a nicer area

If you choose to live in a nicer area, yeas you will need to pay more for your mortgage, but you will probably be able to save on insurance premiums for your home and car. You probably won’t have to drive as far to get to good local amenities either, which means you’ll waste more gas money, so don’t necessarily think that moving to a cheaper area is always the cheapest option and do the math.

As you can see, it is often possible to save money by spending more money, and these examples are just the tip of the iceberg. So, always explore your options fully.
