What Material Should You Use for Kitchen Countertops?
Kitchen countertops need to be resilient, they need to resist heat and they need to last a long time. So how do you go about picking the best kitchen countertops? We’ve put some of the most common options to the test and here are our findings.
Natural materials are unique but not as strong as man-made materials
Natural materials such as granite, marble and quartzite are all acceptable for kitchen countertops. They usually come with distinct designs due to their natural source, but it’s important to remember that man-made materials are usually a bit stronger. They’re also a bit lighter and more affordable in some cases.
Natural materials will require sealing now and then
Since stone is naturally porous, they can absorb water and stains which will harm the appearance of the countertops. As such, they’ll need to be sealed every now and then to prevent this happening. On the other hand, man-made materials are non-porous, meaning they don’t need to be sealed while still providing excellent resistance against water.
Natural materials have a few more applications
For those that want to keep a consistent theme throughout their house, it’s a good idea to remember that natural materials can often be used for other things such as bar tops, fireplaces and exterior kitchens. While some man-made materials are also suitable for this, they’re slightly more limited.
