Sharing is caring!

With our family’s love for all things Eric Carle books and especially for the Very Hungry Caterpillar, I wanted to share these party ideas for a fabulous Very Hungry Caterpillar party. Now, I know I’ve also said before- we don’t really believe in making a big deal out of the first birthday party. Especially because, it usually ends up being more for the parents. However, for the guests (adults) or as your child gets older? This Very Hungry Caterpillar inspired birthday theme is sure to be a memorable favorite.

Gender Neutral Birthday Party Ideas

One of the reasons that the Very Hungry Caterpillar is so appealing for a birthday party? It can be entirely gender neutral. It’s not pink, it’s not blue. It’s not the traditional boy or girl colors. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with a gender specific birthday.

When we celebrated Squeaker’s first birthday? We went with a Sock Monkey theme.

We had a fairly modest budget to work with and stayed well within our budget for decorations. The majority of the budget went towards food but, that’s also considering that most of our guests were adults.

We also skipped out on the cake smash but I know that’s becoming more and more popular as well.

Menu ideas for a Very Hungry Caterpillar Birthday Party

Well, aside from the cake of course, you could take your cues right from the book.

Your snacks and appetizers could follow the trends of the various foods that were eaten.

Let’s think back for a second, this caterpillar (with the exception of leaves) had quite a bit of variety in his (or her) diet. From savory to sweet, even a few fruits and vegetables. Or you can stick with more traditional party food. It’s really up to you!

Suggestions:

  • Fruit salad (from Strawberries, plums, pears)
  • Sausages or cocktail hotdogs
  • Cheese & crackers
