Why You Should Encourage Messy Sensory Play

Why You Should Encourage Messy Sensory Play

This post and giveaway were made possible by iConnect and Dreft. I was compensated for my participation in this campaign, but all opinions are 100% mine. A happy toddler = a happy mom And yes, that is 1000% true for us. When Squeaker is having a good day, I have a good day. And when Squeaker has a great day, I tend to have a great day. Sure, we still have our ups and downs and our power struggles. But when she is happy, I’m also happy. Sometimes her happiness stems from my overall mood. Mostly though it’s from what she’s doing during the day. And a good day for her is a balanced day. Sometimes we do pages from a tot pack and sometimes…

With the warmer weather finally settling in, we’re planning to take more of our activities outside. Whether that’s just getting outside to play or taking some of our sensory and learning activities outdoors; we want to make the most of these sunny days. It also helps to get outside because it means longer nap-times for her. Squeaker enjoys being outdoors, probably more than I do, but that’s because I have seasonal allergies to deal with. Still, I don’t want that to…

Winter Themed Sensory Friendly Activity: Sensory Snow Wonderland

Winter Themed Sensory Friendly Activity: Sensory Snow Wonderland

Has it snowed where you are yet? In Albany, we had our first snow of this season the second weekend of October. It was only flurries and didn’t last for very long, but it was just enough to fascinate Squeaker and capture her attention. Of course, she already has a love of snow and snowmen thanks to Frozen (mostly Olaf) but ever since she actually saw snow; that’s all she’s asked for. However, it has not snowed since but I’m sure it’s on it’s way and will be here before we know it. In the meantime, I put together a sensory snow wonderland for her. Really it was just a sensory snow experiment because I wanted to see what would hold her attention. Next time…

F is for Farm Sensory Bin

Welcome to Alphabet Sensory Activities, hosted by The Jenny Evolution along with their partner site The Sensory Spectrum! 26 amazing bloggers have gotten together to share a sensory experience based on a letter of the alphabet every day this month. As one of the participating bloggers, I chose the letter F and we’re doing a fun farm sensory bin. Squeaker enjoys learning about farm animals, so I thought it would be fitting to do a sensory bin for her. Easy Sensory Bin Ideas (for non crafty moms) We haven’t done as many sensory bins as I would like, but when we do them it makes it extra special for Squeaker. One of the biggest problems that I run into is finding a filler material. Previously, I had used green…

Simple Sensory Play: Letter A Sensory Play

I enjoy any simple sensory play ideas and by simple sensory play, I mean 5 ingredients or less with minimal prep and clean up. Of course I can dream but it’s wonderful when I come across play ideas like that. And this all stemmed from my making avocado and banana muffins. I used applesauce in the recipe and since Kyle decided to get a larger jar of unsweetened applesauce, I started looking for ideas. I came across one from Still Playing School and thought- why not give that a try. You could also use this in conjunction with our Letter A post from our afterschooling series. Simple Scarf Sensory Play

Squeaker has recently started getting into my clothes. More often than not, this involves taking them off of the shelves, looping one item (usually a t-shirt) around her neck/shoulder area and leaving the rest on the floor. Sometimes, she’ll try to put them on, though unless it’s something like a tank top, she won’t get very far. Then she discovered a scarf that I had recently been sent for another blogging post. And all bets were off. All I had to do was encourage her to explore and we had a morning filled with simple scarf sensory play. I wasn’t sure why this caught her interest so much, but it really did hold her attention for quite some time. At first, it was limited to…
