Autism Speaks (and Jenny McCarthy) Do Not Speak for Me and My Family

Autism speaks is a bit of a controversy in the autism community. But why is that? And why, are we as parents, not as aware of this? Surely an organization such as autism speaks would act in the best interest of those on the autism spectrum, right? That is what I had believed as well but, I cannot and will not support them. This is why I don’t support autism speaks and I would encourage you to look deeper. Find out the truth and then make a decision.  Autism Speaks Doesn’t Speak for Me April, in the United States, marks the beginning of Autism Awareness month. World Autism Day is April 2nd. Why I Chose to Pursue an Official ADHD Diagnosis after a Self Diagnosis

I’ll begin this by simply saying: a self diagnosis — whether it’s ADHD or Autism — is perfectly valid. And anyone around you that has a problem with it? It speaks far more to them than it ever does of you. That all said? I self-diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 37. Then, two years later in 2021, I would pursue an official diagnosis. I entered that evaluation thinking, okay – I’ll come out of this with my diagnosis of ADHD and that’s it. But it wasn’t. I walked out of my evaluation as an Autistic and ADHDer adult. There are many books on the subject of how to be highly successful as well as how to achieve happiness. If you’re like most people, you probably think these notions are for other people, who are super extraordinary, and you feel that you don’t fall into the mix. Today, the…

Do you spend too much or do you have a spending problem?

I will confess that I have a problem… if it’s my own money, I’m a cheapskate, a tightwad.. whatever you’d like to call it. But if it’s someone else’s money? Usually I would have no problem spending it. So maybe I used to have that problem, and occasionally it will still rear it’s ugly head. How did I stop this particular problem? By asking myself: Do you spend too much? And it wasn’t just where it concerned my own money, but any money. I started to consider what I had in terms of cash and credit. Cash, for me, had to become real money and credit cards were borrowed money. It was a hard lesson to learn and one that I’ll cover in a future…

Two Meaningful Quotes About Motherhood for the Mom Who Feels Unappreciated

If you’re feeling a bit underappreciated as a mom, I get it. Sometimes it seems like the work that we do just isn’t acknowledged and it sucks. As moms, whether we are stay at home, work at home, or work outside of the home; we do a lot. We tend to wear many hats in addition to our primary hat as mom. And that applies whether we are a single moms, married moms, divorced moms, etc. Moms are very busy people. And more often than not, the work that we do on an every day basis? It may not seem like we’re doing enough. It may seem, to others, that we simply aren’t doing a lot. But in reality? Yes, we are. We are doing…
