Sharing is caring!

You’ve just moved into a new home. It’s your dream home; it’s a lovely size and has everything that your family wants and needs from a property. Now that you’ve moved into the property, you’re in a position to start thinking about how you might like to renovate it and make more of the property. Of course, knowing where to start can be a real challenge – after all, there’s a lot that you need to think about and take into account.

The good news is that making more of your new home doesn’t have to equate to a complete and utter nightmare, it’s simply a case of taking a strategic and measured approach to altering your new home and putting your own stamp on the place. Wondering what approach you should take to doing that and how you can ensure that you get the results that you want?

Have a read of the actionable guide below for how you can make more of your new home.

Start with the unloved spaces

It’s easy to forget about those ‘unloved’ spaces, so it’s best to start with them as your key focus. That way, none of these important spaces get forgotten.

A common space that often gets forgotten about is basements (if you have one) and crawl spaces. These spaces are both prone to moisture and wetness, which is why investing in crawl space moisture prevention can be a good option, to help prevent issues from occurring later on within your property.

It’s also worth thinking about how you can make more of your attic and basement and whether they are destined to remain as storage spaces or whether there’s the option of converting them into livable spaces.

Tailor the design to suit your lifestyle

Many of us enjoy flicking through glossy magazines and scrolling on sites like Pinterest to get inspiration for our homes. There’s nothing wrong with falling head over heels for a specific bedroom colorway or kitchen cabinet design, but it’s important to consider your lifestyle as well as your aesthetic preferences when decorating. Look for ways to make your home work on a practical level. You want your new base to allow you to live in the way you want.

Planning layouts and room functions and buying furniture are key steps. Choose layouts that suit your needs and preferences. If you have young kids, for example, you may want to create open spaces that cater to different users and activities while enabling you to spend quality time together.

Look for pieces of furniture that complement your lifestyle. If socializing is important to you, explore different styles of tables and seating. Take a look at galleries like the collection of dining tables at Two Seventy Nine. Oval and round tables are great for entertaining, while long tables work well in large, open-plan kitchens and outdoor living rooms. They can provide a versatile hub for eating, working, and chatting.

Overhaul the interiors of your home

The next step, to make more of your new home, is to take the time to think about how you can overhaul the interiors of the space. It might be that you like the way the property has been decorated and designed, and only want to make minimal changes, or it may be that you feel the property lacks your preferred décor tone and style, and you would prefer to completely overhaul the space and start afresh.

Either way, it’s important to put aside time (and money) to update and overhaul the space and transform it into somewhere that you (and your family) feel comfortable and are happy to live. How your home looks is important, as it can have a big impact on how you feel about the space.

Ensure your garden meets your needs

It’s a good idea not to overlook your garden. Far too many people do this. If you want to make more of your new home, that includes taking the time to tackle the garden and transform the outdoor space into somewhere that you and your family can spend time together.

If you’re not sure where to start with your garden, you can always opt to hire a gardener to help you get started and plan out the landscaping process – this can be super helpful if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the task at hand.

There you have it, a simple guide to a few ways you can make more of your new home.
