Sharing is caring!

Unless you’re already a mother, you will never understand how challenging it is to be a mom. It might not seem difficult, but life as a mom is full of new challenges every day. You have so many responsibilities, lots of things to do, and a whole family to look out for. Whether you’re a stay-at-home mom or a mom with a job, your life can get very chaotic, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.

Setting mom goals is a great way to make your way through the chaos. These goals will give you things to aim for, almost creating more structure in your life. They help you feel inspired, which can let you live a happier life and be a better mom. Too many moms never set goals because you don’t really see the point. Well, this post will help you learn how to set some new goals and stop feeling overwhelmed!

Set your overall goal for the next year

Seeing as 2021 has just begun, it’s the perfect time to think about a goal for the year. As a mother, you should consider something that you hope to achieve over the next twelve months. This can relate to anything in your life, but it is the most important goal for you to reach.

As an example, some moms set a goal of wanting to go back to work by the end of the year. Others have goals more linked to their parenting – perhaps you want to shout less than you currently do? You could even have health goals, like wanting to return to your prenatal weight. It’s entirely up to you, but this overall goal is the big one that you’ll want to achieve.

Add in lots of smaller goals

Once you’ve got your main goal, you need to add in some smaller goals to hit throughout the year. A good rule of thumb is to have one goal for each month – maybe more, depending on how inspired you feel. It’s also smart to have these small goals connect to the overall goal in some way.

Let’s look at a couple of examples to see how this fits together. Imagine your overall goal for the year is to move into your first family home. You’ve set your mind on finding a single house 1 storey for sale, and that’s where you want to live by 2022. Now, your monthly goals should revolve around that. Perhaps you set an ongoing monthly goal of saving a set amount of money to help pay for a deposit. Maybe your goal for January/February is to make a shortlist of houses to look at. Think of any other goals that will help you achieve the overall goal at the end of the year!

Similarly, imagine your main goal is to develop a stronger relationship with your kids. You could have smaller goals like aiming to spend at least an hour a day playing with your children. Or, look to go out on a family trip at least once per month – even if it’s for a walk around a local park! These two examples should help you get the idea: the small goals contribute to the overall one. The benefit of the small goals is that you feel like you’re making progress throughout the year and have little targets to aim for.

Keep reviewing your goals

At the end of each month or two/three months, you should look back at your goals. Are you finding them easy to achieve? Are you on course to achieve your overall goal? This is important as it lets you review things and see if your goals are realistic. You might discover that your initial monthly goals are far too unrealistic. In which case, adjust them to make them more achievable. Goals should be a challenge, but they shouldn’t be impossible to hit or you lose motivation.

Reviewing the goals also helps you stay on track and reminds you of what you’re hoping to achieve. As a mom, it can be something that grounds you and stops you from blowing away in the chaos that is your life!

Why set mom goals?

Mom goals are important because they help you make sense of your life. Too many moms will spend years of their life just going through the motions and being caught up in the act of raising a family. You need to take a moment to set targets to help you find your feet.

Hopefully, this post has given you some tips and advice on how to set your goals – and what goals you can set.
