Gift Basket Ideas for Valentine’s Day

Welcome to Day 2 of the 14 Days of Valentines series! Today I wanted to touch on something that almost ties into an early career ambition of mine. When I was a SAHM with Sweet B, I wanted to start my own home based business. I looked into direct selling and actually got pretty far with Avon and Home Interiors but I waned to do something else. One of the options I considered was gift baskets. Gift baskets are a great idea for anytime of the year but I love them especially at this time of the year. Whether you’re buying a gift basket from a company or you’re making it yourself, a gift basket is sure to be an appreciated gift. With that said, here are some gift basket ideas for Valentine’s Day (pre-assembled and ideas to make your own).

Some of the more common gift basket ideas are food based (gourmet variety, cheese and sausage, breads, cookies, etc.) while others may cater to a theme or interest. While it might be just as as easy to purchase a ready made gift basket, you can also design one yourself.

Suggested Supplies:

A Container to Hold Everything (this could be a basket, or a bucket, or a box). Wayfair.com has a three set of baskets (designed for use in a nursery) that could work quite well or you could also use a picnic basket. Other suggestions could include a decorative bucket, laundry basket, or hamper.

Cellophane and Tissue Paper (optional) this is an optional item depending on how you want to wrap or present your basket. Cellophane can also be used to wrap individual items if you so choose. Tissue paper can be used to line your basket or to wrap items if you so wish. Another option, if you’re creating a basket for a cooking or food themed basket would be dishtowels or cloth napkins.

Suggested Themes/Gift Basket Ideas:

Tea Lover’s Basket: Include items such as loose leaf tea from Teavanna, their most popular selections include: Gyokuro Imperial Green Tea, Blueberry Kona Pop Tea Blend, and White Ayurvedic Chai. Other items to include: a Perfectea Maker, a tea tin, and a rock sugar jar. If you’d rather not go that route, you can also choose a variety of Yogi tea, Twinnings, Bigelow or Stash. Another popular tea brand, especially in our home, is Tazo. My particular favorites include: Chai (chocolate, original, and vanilla caramel), Zen, and Awake. Other suggestions would be honey, a tea kettle, and tea cups or mugs.

Coffee Lover’s Basket: Similar to the tea lover’s basket, include such items as Starbucks coffee or K-Cups and finish with items such as coffee mugs or cups. You could also include a gift card for a favorite local coffee shop in your basket.

Cooking/Food Lover’s Basket: If you know someone who loves to cook, try a basket filled with cookbooks, kitchen gadgets, and utensils. Find a variety of items on sale now at FoodNetwork.com or stock up on clearance items and save up to 80% off at Cooking.com. Other items to include: small appliances and spices.

Other ideas for gift baskets include: car lover, book lover, pet lover (dog, cat, bird, etc.), music lover. There’s really almost no limit as to what you can do for a theme. Start with a few items and keep it small, or splurge on a big item and accent with a few smaller items. Whatever direction you choose, a gift basket is a great way to show someone that you care- especially when you take the time to put it together yourself.

Don’t limit yourself to the suggestions that I’ve provided, scour the $1 aisle at Target or visit your local Dollar General, Family Dollar, or Dollar Tree for basket stuffers.
