These days you may find yourself spending more time at home and around the house. In this case, you might discover that you have some extra time on your hands as well.

One way to fill your free moments is to relax and focus on doing some self-care activities. This may be a new concept to you if you’re a busy mom with a lot on your mind. However, taking good care of yourself is essential to you feeling your best and being a good parent and partner. Therefore, it’s worth taking the time to learn more about eight ways you can relax and practice self-care at home.

1. Have A Spa Day


One way to relax and practice self-care at home is to have a spa day. Pamper yourself by taking a warm bubble bath, putting on some quiet music, and lighting a few candles. Put your phone away and eliminate any possible distractions so you can truly rest and take pleasure in the moment.

After you’re done in the bathtub, consider giving yourself a facial or manicure and painting your nails. These are all ways to not only feel better fast but will also help you to reduce stress and look your best.

2. Read A Book


Another way to relax and practice self-care at home is to get lost in a good book. It’s a great way to take your mind off your to-do list and will help your body to feel calmer. Think about setting up a reading nook and area you can go to read and not be distracted by anything else. If you plan to read often then you may want to invest in creating a space that’s designed just for you.

Think about building the perfect spot to read by working with a company such as to replace old windows or to install a bay or picture window you can sit near. It’ll feel good to read while you drink a cup of tea and soak up the natural light that will come pouring in.

3. Go for A Walk


Get outside and enjoy some time in nature whenever you need a boost in your mood. Exercise and some more daily movement are excellent ways to relax and practice self-care at home. The minute you step outside and breathe in the fresh air you’re likely to feel better and more energized.

Bring some music with you if you want or just use the quiet time to reflect. You’ll be doing yourself a favor by working on nurturing your mental health and physical body as you walk. Walking has many health benefits and is a great way to blow off steam and reset your mind and attitude. You’ll likely return home feeling refreshed and ready to get back to your daily responsibilities.

4. Unplug & Take A Nap


Put your phone away and unplug from news and technology if you want to give yourself a break. It can make your mind race and you may begin to compare yourself to others the more you’re connected. Relax and practice self-care at home by unplugging and taking a nap instead.

Find a comfortable place in your home and put your feet up and close your eyes. Even if you don’t drift off into a deep sleep it’ll feel good to rest your mind and body. Taking a short nap can revive you and give you the energy you need back to get through the rest of your day with a positive outlook.

5. Do Some Yoga


Yoga is another beneficial way to boost your mood and improve your flexibility. It can be a very relaxing exercise to do, depending upon which type of yoga you do or moves you perform. Practice self-care at home by finding a quiet place to put on a yoga class and relax and calm yourself down as you stretch and slow any racing thoughts.

Yoga classes not only teach you how to move your body in new and different ways but also how to relax and be in the present moment. Be kind to yourself and go slow as you perform various yoga moves and get used to the practice.

6. Practice Meditation


Meditation isn’t always easy but it is always favorable for your health and wellness, especially your mental health and state of mind. Relax and practice self-care at home by participating in some meditation in your downtime. There are many apps you can use to listen to guided meditations that will walk you through how to do it.

Give yourself some time to adjust and adapt to the practice because it can be challenging to get the hang of it at first. There is no right or wrong with it and soon you’ll notice that you’re able to better focus on the meditation you’re listening to and that your mind isn’t racing as much.

7. Call A Friend


It’s also important that you stay connected to others when you’re at home a lot. In this case, you may find it relaxing and rewarding to call up an old friend. Practice self-care by reaching out and engaging with others. Open up to a trusted friend about what’s going on in your life and how you’re feeling. Listen to what they have to say as well and take pleasure in connecting with someone you care about.

Make some time for reminiscing and laughter as well and you’ll soon feel much more joyful and at ease.

8. Write in A Gratitude Journal


Gratitude is yet another way to practice self-care at home. It’ll be relaxing to get out a journal and write down all your blessings and what you’re thankful for in life. You’ll notice that it turns your attitude around for the better and that there’s less room in your mind for negative thoughts or ruminating about what you don’t have or what’s lacking.

Instead, focus on what’s going well for you and all the upsides, and let this new way of thinking help you feel more relaxed and excited about all that’s yet to come.
