Sharing is caring!

There are many different ways to decorate a house, but a common option that almost everyone uses is plants. Whether it’s a simple green plant, small cacti or rows of flowers, plants can be used to brighten up our rooms, add a splash of color and even make our rooms smell nice. However, they’re also a lot of work to take care of because you might spend a lot of time cleaning up your home if you have plants. Whether it’s a loose bit of soil, dying leaves or even insects that your plants attract, they can be a lot more work than most people think.

Thankfully, there’s an effective alternative; artificial plants! While it might sound strange to some, there are actually many different reasons why you consider decorating your home with artificial plants and flowers instead of real ones. In this post, we’re going to list ten of the biggest reasons.

  1. You have a wider range of plant choices

Seasons don’t matter when you’re buying artificial plants. This means you can fill your house with any kind of plant from anywhere in the world. There are no restrictions or limitations and you’re free to decorate your home with the most unique (and often fantastical) plants available.

  1. You can get artificial plants in unique colors

Color is a huge component of interior design, hence why artificial plants are so popular when it comes to decorating a room. There are a lot of different shades and hues that you can take advantage of with artificial plants–you don’t need to use just green plants! Artificial flowers can add a bright splash of color to any home and you’d be surprised at the huge range of faux flowers you can buy.

  1. You can put other things in the pots as well

If you enjoy the idea of having small potted plants on your desk, then you might find other uses for those pots as well. For example, you could have a plant pot that also doubles as a pen pot. You can even mix and match different types of artificial flowers in the same pot.

  1. You can store them away or take them with you if you move

One of the unique benefits of artificial plants is that you can store them away when you don’t need them. You can swap around different types of plants depending on the season or your mood, and you can keep them with you even if you move home. We suggest you read an artificial flower guide for more tips on how to take care of artificial plants. This will help you extend their lifespan and make them last virtually forever.

  1. High-quality artificial plants look and feel like real ones

Gone are the days of artificial plants that look and feel fake. These days, artificial plants are made to look, feel and even smell like their real-world counterparts. The quality of faux flowers will increase as you pay more, but you don’t need to invest a lot of money to get something that looks and feels great.

  1. They require far less maintenance

One of the biggest reasons why people dislike decorating with plants is because they’re a lot of work. Once you buy a plant, you need to keep it watered, you need to ensure it has plenty of sunlight and you need to ensure it won’t be damaged by pets, by you or anything else around the home. In addition, real pets can often attract small pests which can be annoying for some people. When you invest in artificial plants, you don’t need to take care of them at all because they don’t dry out or die.

  1. They don’t flare up your allergies

Unlike real flowers, artificial ones won’t cause your allergies to flare up because they don’t produce or spread pollen. This could prevent many people from putting plants around their home since they can’t decorate with something that could trigger their allergies. This makes artificial plants perfect for anyone that has bad allergies such as hay fever.

  1. You can put them anywhere you want

Artificial plants don’t need sunlight, oxygen or water. You can put them anywhere you want and in any kind of container that you like. This opens up a lot of unique possibilities, such as placing plants on your shelves or kitchen even if they don’t get sunlight.

  1. They can come with unique scents as well

One of the benefits of real plants is that they usually smell great. However, there are actually a lot of ways to add scents to artificial plants. For one, you can add your own scents with essential oils and sprays, and there are some plants that come scented. For instance, long-lasting roses are made from real roses that are preserved and come with the same smell and feel of a fresh rose, only they last for several months and not days.

  1. They’re better for the environment

Artificial plants can actually be better for the environment compared to real ones. Certain types of flowers, such as Valentine’s Day roses, are actually bad for the planet because they’re grown in conditions that produce a lot of CO2. This makes them surprisingly harmful to their local environments. However, this doesn’t apply if you buy the seeds yourself and plant the flowers. Of course, it’s a lot more work and you’re not guaranteed to get beautiful plants. Artificial plants can be disposed of if you don’t need them, they don’t produce waste and they’re not farmed in conditions that are bad for the planet.

Artificial plants aren’t a complete replacement for real ones. However, if you’re decorating and are only concerned about the aesthetic appearance of your home, then it’s probably good enough for most people. Of course, if you’re after the other benefits of having plants in your home (such as having a fun little hobby) then you should absolutely go with real ones. On the other hand, if you’re only concerned about the appearance of your home and using plants as decorations, then artificial ones will save you a lot of time, money and effort.
