TV For My Toddler

Last month, I think, I remember reading a few posts on Scary Mommy and perhaps BuzzFeed about TV shows that younger kids watch. As a parent of a child with autism, I haven’t escaped those sets of shows since Sweet B was a toddler. Though they’ve changed, like no more Teletubbies (thank goodness), some are still the same. Some aren’t. Recently, Squeaker has taken more of an interest in what’s on TV. We do try to limit her screen time, but there are times that it’s on in the background and she watches in spurts. 11 Indoor and Outdoor Frugal Family Activities for the Winter

As we’re in the midst of Winter, and if you’re in the Northeast then you’re probably ready for winter to be over, I wanted to start a new seasonal series. Every two or three months, we’ll start presenting a list of free or almost free frugal family activities that you can do. Sometimes the list will be outdoor ideas, sometimes they’ll be indoor ideas. But for the most part, it will involve stuff that’s nearby or that you may already have on hand. The point to this series is: you don’t have to spend a lot of money to have fun as a family. And since we’re striving to be more frugal, we’re happy to share whatever we come up with in terms of frugal…

How to Have a Budget Friendly Valentine’s Day

How to Have a Budget Friendly Valentine’s Day

Ah, Valentine’s Day. It seems that most people are in one of two camps: either you enjoy this holiday or you loathe this holiday. I’m in the second camp, mostly because I see Valentine’s Day as overly commercialized.  I haven’t bought anything for Kyle and he knows not to buy anything for me. We don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day with gifts, cards, or things like that. We honor Valentine’s Day every day of the year in the sense of showing love and appreciation. But that’s not to say that we won’t do something special- maybe for the kiddos, just not for us. We’re also trying to keep a close eye on our finances so instead we look for budget friendly Valentine’s Day ideas. Budget Friendly Valentine’s…

Budget Friendly Date Night Ideas

Welcome to Day 5 of 14 Days of Valentines! Today, I want to talk about budget friendly date night ideas but before I get into that, I do have a small confession to make. While I am doing a 14 Days of Valentines, I don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day itself. I like to decorate for the holiday, I like baking for the holiday, and there’s a multitude of children’s crafts and activities that I enjoy doing. But as far as celebrating Valentine’s Day in terms of buying gifts or giving gifts- no thanks. I’ve always felt that Valentine’s Day was becoming too commercialized and I’m not really a materialistic person. Plus, if you’re just going to reserve this one day of the year to go…

I’ll have a more kid friendly version (featuring more cookies, brownies, and treats) next week. [Tweet “20+ Delicious Valentine’s Day Dessert Recipes”] Personally, I wouldn’t mind any of…

Valentine’s Day Dishes and Drinks

Welcome to Day 3 of 14 Days of Valentines! Today, it’s all about the food we eat and the drinks we drink. Desserts will be in their own post and I’ll also feature Kid Friendly desserts next week. Or you could do a red themed dinner night for a party- really, just use your imagination and don’t limit yourself! You could also do a few of these for a 4th of July celebration.
