Sharing is caring!

When your family is growing, you might find that your home just isn’t big enough anymore. As kids get older, they need their own space and there will come a point when there isn’t enough space for everything. If the house is starting to feel cramped and you are running out of places to store all of your stuff, you need to make some decisions. The most obvious thing to do is to move into a bigger house, but that isn’t always what you want to do.

If you love the house and the area that you live in, you may want to stay there. If you do stay, you will need to think about ways to create the extra space that you need in your current home. These are some of the different ways that you can add more space to your home.

4 Ways to Add Space When You Outgrow Your Home

Decluttering

Before you start thinking about making big changes to the house, you should get rid of some of your clutter. A lot of people think that their house is too small when, in reality, they have just filled it with too much junk that they don’t need. If you have a clearout, you may find that you free up the space that you need and you don’t need to do anything else. But if you are still struggling for space, you need to think about extending the house.

Full Extensions

The first option you have is to build a full extension on the house. That means adding whole new rooms or extending existing rooms into your outside space. This is a great way to get the space that you need. However, it is going to be a big job and it will cost you a lot of money, which is a hurdle for a lot of people. If you don’t have any other options and you are definitely sure that you don’t want to move, you should consider a full extension. But you have to find a way to fund it and make sure that you take your time when choosing a contractor

Garages And Carports

If you have rooms in the house that are used for storage and nothing else, you  are not making effective use of that space. But if you can add more storage, you can free up those rooms and turn them into more bedrooms or living areas. If you don’t have one already, you could consider building a garage outside and using that for storage as well as protecting your car. If you have a tight budget, you should look at carports instead. The prices of metal carports are a lot lower than a full garage, but you still have somewhere to put your car. It also gives you that extra storage that you need.

Conversions

Sometimes, you might not need to add anything to the house, you just need to make better use of the space that you do have. You could consider an attic conversion or a garage conversion if you don’t use those spaces for anything else. This gives you an extra bedroom or another living area.

If you want to stay in your current home but you don’t have enough space, these are the best ways to extend it and find the space that you need.
