Local friends, do you have plans for the summer? Though people outside of the Capital Region may not think it; there is so much to see and do in Albany! Of course, we know how much there is to do. And today, I want to share a few of our very favorite things for summer family fun in Albany, NY.
Now, while I may have thought that this area was fairly boring as a teenager; as a mom I’ve come to appreciate how much there is to do.
For example, we have two parks within walking distance. One has a spray pad and a swimming pool that we like to take advantage of.
We are also within walking distance of Empire State Plaza which is home to the New York State Museum. The museum is free admission and also houses a carousel- which is free.
And, on the 4th of July, Price Chopper sponsors the annual fireworks. While we haven’t gone down to the plaza yet, we can walk to the local park to see this spectacular celebration.
Other family friendly things to do in the summer, for those in the capital district, include a visit to Indian Ladder Farm or Thacher Park in nearby Altamont. There’s also plenty of places to go hiking and we’re not too far from Lake George for a fun day trip.
If, however, you’re looking to escape the summer heat; there’s plenty to do indoors as well.
You could make a day of it at one of the two local malls. And while you’re there, why not take in a movie? I know, I called this a budget friendly post and you’re probably wondering why I would suggest a movie.
But, if you’re stocking up for your household essentials at your local Price Chopper, you could get yourself two free movie tickets.
Here’s how to get your tickets:
