Thank you to Smucker’s for sponsoring this conversation and for helping to provide our snacks for our Summer Staycation
As a family on a budget, going on vacation is something that we don’t do very often. In fact, we’re more likely to take a staycation than a vacation. And a staycation is perfectly fine for us. There’s plenty to see and do in Albany that we can have a great staycation without going much further than our own backyard.
But just because we took a staycation doesn’t mean that we didn’t have any fun.
Sweet B has extended school year from the beginning of July to the middle of August. After that, she’s home with me until she starts school again. And while she does enjoy playing with the Kindle or watching movies, I know it’s just as important to get her and Squeaker outside and enjoying the sunshine.
One thing that they both enjoy a lot is going to the park. They both enjoy the swings and the merry go round. Squeaker also likes to pick leaves and acorns. We’ve also visited one of the local splash pads when the weather is particularly hot.
For our trips to the park, we can take along snacks like pretzel sticks, bananas and our handy Jif Whips container for dipping. It tucks in nicely to the diaper bag or tote bag, depending on how long we’re staying at the park.
When we’re at home, either enjoying the kiddie pool (which they both fit in nicely and is perfect for water play) or by enjoying an indoor picnic; we still turn to our Jif Whips for handy snacks. We’ve also done a few learning activities though it’s all still through games so it’s more edutainment than anything.
Either by placing a tablespoon of Jif Whips in a crescent roll:
Or by whipping up a tasty smoothie that they can both enjoy:
Whether we’re exploring the local parks, taking a walk through our neighborhood, or enjoying the comforts of our own backyard; we had an enjoyable and full Summer staycation.
What would you do during your staycation?
