Thank you to Walmart® for sponsoring this conversation. Eating a healthy breakfast sets the stage for the rest of the day and with products from Walmart, my morning is off to great start.
I have a confession… I used to be a skipper. You know, one of those people who skips breakfast in the morning or claims that a large (or extra large) cup of coffee is all you need. That was me. Well, truth be told, a cigarette or two and coffee… and that was my “breakfast”. Not very healthy or very filling. But, that changed after I got pregnant with Squeaker.. which was also around the same time that Kyle and I both decided we were going to start taking steps to living a healthier life. Now, I eat breakfast every day. Some mornings though, I would rather have my breakfast on the go in the form of an energy packed breakfast smoothie.
Most mornings, my breakfast consists of two waffles, some sort of protein (either eggs or sausage), a banana, and herbal tea. During the summer though, I enjoy having granola in place of my waffles and yogurt as my protein. Normally, I have my granola with yogurt in a parfait or I’ll have it warm with some milk.
But what makes granola so special?
Granola made with whole, natural ingredients has more health benefits than downsides, but it can still be high in calories and fat. For that reason, it’s important to eat it in moderation. Stick to servings of about 1/4 cup, and enjoy granola with nonfat milk or yogurt. Round out the meal with fresh fruits or vegetables for added health benefits.
Another way I enjoy granola is throughout the day as a quick snack or in a trail mix. Granola is a great way to keep me going- starting with breakfast and continuing throughout the day. I’ve even tried it as a crunchy topping for ice cream or frozen yogurt. It’s a great way to add a little flavor and a little texture.
But, after finding a new brand of granola to try out, I thought I might try it in a new way with my breakfast. Or at least a new way to me.
I had seen Nature’s Path granola around before, but hadn’t tried it until recently.
This particular flavor is Summer Berries.
I love the flavor combination in this mix, and while I knew it would pair wonderfully with a blueberry, strawberry, or vanilla yogurt for a parfait, I wanted to give it a shot in a smoothie.
As noted in the recipe, with just 1/2 cup of milk, the smoothie itself was pretty thick. Though, at the same time, I think that might have been okay with some granola as a parfait.. Will have to try that out next time 🙂
So why choose Nature’s Path granola? It’s gluten free, USDA organic, and Non GMO certified.
With ingredients like deliciously ripe organic strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and creamy Greek yogurt chunks mixed with gluten free and wheat free whole grain oats, all in our convenient zip top pouch. And because we’re Nature’s Path, they’re also organic, non-GMO and free of all those synthetic preservatives and additives.
You can find Nature’s Path granola at your local WalMart or at WalMart online.
Having breakfast is a great way to start your day. How would you use Nature’s Path granola to fuel your morning?
